We went to War Thunder, but don't know where to start the battle? We have compiled a detailed guide in which we will tell the beginner how to upgrade tanks, fly planes and fight on the battlefield.
Which nation to choose first?
The choice of nation is a matter of individual preference. While one player sets specific goals for himself and evaluates the technique of the chosen side, the other takes part in all authentic battles and wages world wars just to pass the time.
In any case, everyone will have to make a choice. To do this, the game features seven nations. Each nation has a personal arsenal of military equipment - it is in it that the main power of the battle is hidden. Aircraft and tanks of one nation can outnumber the vehicles of another nation. From this, choosing a side is your main step to victory.
Nations and their differences in War Thunder:
- USSR - Soviet vehicles deal the most armor damage.
- Germany - German tanks have the highest penetrating guns per level, and they are also the most accurate.
- The USA is a medium-level weapon, but armored vehicles are distinguished by high frontal protection.
- Great Britain - infantry tanks equipped with fast-firing small-caliber guns, but they are very slow.
- Japan - tanks are equipped with naval guns that increase the penetration and damage of the enemy.
- France - high rate of fire thanks to the drum loading mechanism.
- Italy - the vehicles have been pumped in a balanced way, the impact force and defense will be on the same level, the tank is easy to maneuver.

For beginners, we suggest opting for Soviet technology. It has high speed, so if you make a combat mistake, you can quickly catch up with the team. In addition, it will be easier for you to leave the dangerous direction.
Armored vehicles
After choosing a nation, three reserve vehicles open up in front of the player. They, in turn, open up the possibility of pumping several combat vehicles. Starter vehicle modules are upgraded in 5-10 battles, and their repair and maintenance is free.
It is now important for a beginner to get the maximum number of "research points". They can be earned if you play actively during the battle. To earn points, choose light tanks with high speed.

In the USSR, this tank will be BT-5, playing for other nations, choose starting vehicles.
War Thunder introduces five classes of armored vehicles:
- Light tanks - used for reconnaissance and surprise strikes.
- Medium tanks are designed for rapid assaults and flank bypasses.
- Heavy tanks are suitable for pushing through the main directions on the map.
- Self-propelled artillery mounts - conducting positional battles at a distance, most often located in cover.
- Anti-aircraft self-propelled guns - aimed at protecting ground equipment from enemy aircraft.
When starting a battle in War Thunder, choose light, medium and heavy tanks - they do not require special skills from the player. Use self-propelled guns and SPAAGs only when you understand the tactics of warfare.
Capture points
The main goal of the game is to complete the task. It consists in capturing one or more points on the map, while you must hold it for a long time.
A captured point is a map advantage for the whole team and an opportunity to earn points that can be spent on new cars.

When choosing a vehicle for battle, leave one slot for a fast and light tank - immediately send it to capture control points. High speed helps not only in overtaking the enemy, but also gives you a personal advantage over the team.
During the capture of a point, you receive research points - their sum is equal to the number of control points you captured. If you manage to take the point on your own, you will receive a big reward.
Aviation
Air combat is a dynamic that requires the player to react quickly and follow the chosen strategy. In the first battles, maneuverable biplanes are available to the beginner, later he will be able to become a pilot of a high-speed monoplane.
The following aircraft classes are available to players to implement various combat strategies:
- Fighters - suitable for standard strategies, have high striking power.
- Heavy fighters are designed to counter enemy bombers and attack aircraft.
- Stormtroopers are equipped with outboard armament and powerful forward-facing guns, their purpose is to destroy ground vehicles and weaken fortifications.
- Bombers - with the help of bomb weapons, they destroy airfields and strategic points.
- Jet aviation - has a high tactical performance, is distinguished by a set of high speed and altitude.
- Helicopters - used to assault enemy ground vehicles and help allies. This class of combat aircraft is unlocked for leveling after reaching rank 5 of the research tree.

Fleet
Building a career as a captain in the game is not difficult, but interesting. The main advice for a beginner is to stick with your comrades. Initially, you will have a light torpedo boat and destroyers at your disposal, later you will be able to open new ships.
The fleet in the game is well developed in three countries:
- Britannia - balanced ships, can stay afloat and continue the battle even with serious damage.
- The USSR are fast ships, equipped with good protection.
- Japan - maneuverable ships for fans of epic battles, well-armed and easy to control.
However, there are no obvious outsider countries in the fleet, so you can choose any nation and engage in combat battles.
Some tanks are destroyed with one accurate shot, the ship, in this case, will receive minor damage. He can retreat, let the allies go forward, and at this time, repair himself, put out the fire, and then return to the battle.

The following navy is available in War Thunder:
- Boats - aimed at capturing strategic points, fighting destroyers and aircraft.
- Sea hunters are serious opponents for all ships, with the exception of cruisers. The "hunters" are armed with heavy machine guns, automatic cannons and long-range guns.
- Destroyers - used to destroy surface targets, including heavily armored cruisers.
- Barges - in an instant destroy even strong targets, their disadvantage is a slow move. They keep anti-aircraft guns, automatic guns and machine guns in their arsenal.
- Light cruisers - push through the direction under the cover of light ships. These are the most armored and heavily armed ships in the game.
Realism or arcade?
Having decided on the technique, the player must choose the type of battle. War Thunder has three game modes: arcade, realism and combat simulation.
The arcade mode is designed for the beginner and player who does not have the desire to learn all the intricacies of combat strategy. In the arcade, military equipment has high technical characteristics, high speed and maneuverability.
Here, opponents are highlighted with a red marker, both on the screen and on the mini-map. During firing, the weapon is automatically aimed at the target, and it takes less time to repair and transfer the crew.
Realistic mode is aimed at the battle of experienced players. Enemy marking is disabled here, now they can only be found with binoculars and a scope. To hit the target, you need to evaluate the range of the shot and the surrounding terrain. Characteristics of military equipment in a realistic mode is close to historical.

The simulation battle is waiting for the strongest players with great experience. The mode disables the ability to use any markers, and your view is limited to the commander's tower, cockpit and binoculars.
For fun, start your career in arcade mode, and as you gain experience, move on to realistic and simulation combat.
Crew upgrade
The crew is an important element in the game, whose skills determine the speed of replacement of participants, as well as how the combat vehicle behaves and how quickly it is repaired. The crew is pumped at the time of the battle or for the "Eagles" - an in-game currency.
The crew retains knowledge of previous tanks. You can repeatedly transfer them from one vehicle to another without losing credits and experience - this helps to stick to the strategy and create a convenient set of vehicles.
Tank Crew Skills:
- mechanic: driving;
- gunner: guidance, range determination;
- tank commander: leadership, resourcefulness;
- loader: loading guns;
- gunner-radio operator: radio communication, agility.

Fleet Crew Skills:
- ship commander: autonomy, leadership;
- observers: torpedo detection range;
- engine room: ship control;
- commandos: reloading, accuracy.
Everyone, without exception, is recommended to pump the skill "survivability".
Don't fully load
Some types of equipment in the game can be loaded with several hundred shells. The reality of the game is such that the player during the battle does not have time to release even half of the ammunition.
The developers have released an update to correct the situation with the rash purchase of shells. Now War Thunder is following the path of realism - if you have a lot of ammunition, then the chance of being blown up by an enemy projectile hitting the combat compartment increases.
When going into battle, do not load yourself with projectiles. Buy 20-30 ammo, you probably won't need more. If you run out of ammunition during the battle, go to the captured point and reload your weapon.
Don't rush to level
The temptation to acquire a new technique as soon as it becomes open is great - this is the main mistake of a beginner. Instead of help at the moment of battle and victory, you are faced with difficulties that slow down the gameplay.
The fact is that there is a “balancer” in the game. It reads the level of the used technique and sends the player to the battle where he can make the most of it.

For example, you have chosen one tank of the third level and two tanks of the first level. The game will throw you into a battle where you need tanks of a high level - the third level. Probably, your powerful tank will be destroyed right away, and until the end of the game you will have to fight with your Tier XNUMX vehicles against Tier XNUMX opponents.
Moving to a new level will bring you more success if you do it when you have three vehicles with more or less the same Battle Rating. In this situation, you will be ready for confrontation and will be able to repulse enemy vehicles.
Don't forget, the new tank has no special modifications. It will take some time to pump it, keep this in mind when you make a combat strategy.
Now you know how the world of War Thunder works and understand what you need to do at the initial stage in order to quickly and without errors increase your level. Gain experience, introduce new equipment and head forward to the desired victories!
